Tips For Your Blue Whale Submission
Before you submit your video, please read over these submission guidelines/tips.
Submission videos must be hosted online (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) and must be set to public. Videos that are set to private, sent as a Dropbox link or sent as an email attachment will not be viewed for consideration to perform at Blue Whale.
Your submission videos must be at least five minutes long. If your video is longer than five minutes, please be aware that the judges will only watch the first five minutes of your video.
Try not to use any logos, title cards, or host introductions at the beginning of your clip. This leaves more room for your material.
Your submission videos must be current. Please do not submit anything older than two years. Using an older video clip doesn't give us a good indication of where your performance is at currently.
Your video should be one linear video clip. Do not edit together your best material from a single set or multiple sets.
Your standup/improv performance should be in front of a live audience. Submission videos that aren't taped in front of a live audience or use pre-recorded laughter will not be viewed for consideration to perform at Blue Whale.
Make sure that we can see and hear you clearly.
If you're new to comedy, please consider whether you're ready to submit to Blue Whale Comedy Festival. We're looking for performers with experience in front of an audience.
If you performed at Blue Whale Comedy Festival last year, please consider taking this year off as we try to make opportunities for new performers to bring to the festival each year.
Only one submission is required for improv groups, podcast or comedy acts with more than one person.
If you're submitting your independently produced show, make sure to include the description of the show in the "Comedian Bio" field. Also, keep in mind, we're looking for shows that aren't JUST stand-up as we will have plenty of that already. Stand-up can be an element of your show, but if it's just stand-up it is likely your show won't be considered for the festival. Check out "7 Minutes in Purgatory" or "First Comes Love" for an example of what we're looking for.
Performers will be notified by July 31st as to whether they were selected to perform at the festival.
Please keep in mind that if you don't initially make the cut, spots do open up as the festival gets close due to drop-outs, scheduling conflicts, etc.
